Overview

The Access programme allows for progression onto a number of Higher Diploma and Degree courses, providing a stepping stone to careers such as Teaching, Social Work, Nursing, Physiotherapy and Midwifery. You will have the opportunity to study one of the following diplomas:
  • Access to HE Diploma – (Health)
  • Access to HE Diploma – (Social Science and Humanities)
  • Access to HE Diploma – (Science)
  • Access to HE Diploma – (Business and Law)
  • Access to HE Diploma – (Business and Management)
In order to complete your diploma, modules in the following subjects are available (diploma dependant): English Literature, History, Psychology, Sociology, Geography, Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science and Health Studies. You will also complete units in Maths, English, IT and Skills for Learning and attend a tutorial session.
The programmes are delivered over three days a week for one year. The course also involves a significant amount of independent study. You will be assessed via continuous assessment; which may include timed assessments. On successful completion you will achieve an Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by the Open College Network West Midlands.
Fees: students who are 19 or over will be able to apply for support to cover the cost of the Course fees via an Advanced Learning Loan (dependant on prior qualifications). Further discussion of fees takes place at interview.
Entry onto the course is via interview, you will need to have a C grade, at least, in either GCSE English Language or Maths to apply for this course. You will be able to study for the GCSE in maths and English which you may not have yet (at C or above) alongside the Access to HE course (in addition to the three days).
