Overview

This exciting qualification introduces creative and innovative features and is designed to provide specialist work-related skills in IT. It will give you the knowledge, understanding and skills that you need to progress to higher qualifications in the sector or work within the IT sector.

The BTEC in Information and Creative Technology has been developed to inspire and enthuse learners to become technology savvy – to become producers of technology – rather than just consumers of them. This involves learners creating technology-based products or systems. The title of the qualifications reflects the emphasis on the creativity required by learners to create/develop products or systems.

What is the structure of the course?

The two core units are externally assessed using an onscreen test. All other units are assessed by at least one unit assignment using a variety of methods but the emphasis is on practical skills assessment on a completed product or implementation of a software and/or a hardware installation.  Some assignments will be theory-based, which will be assessed via a written report and/or presentation.

The assessment is about ensuring that learners are assessed for their skills as well as their knowledge, ensuring that learners are given the chance to show what they have learned in vocational and applied contexts. They also allow learners to be assessed when they are ready and when a centre is able to fully support them.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Successful interview and an interest in emerging technologies.
  • Some experience of desktop applications such as word processing, spreadsheets and presentation graphics is desirable.
