WHAT DOES THE SUBJECT INCLUDE?
You will study a number of different units including Principles of Science, Health Applications of Life Science, The Living Body, Investigating a Crime Scene and Science in Medicine. You will develop skills suitable for working in a range of scientific environments or that will prepare you to go on to further science related courses.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE?
The course is a mixture of units assessed by coursework marked by your tutors and exams marked by BTEC.
IS THIS COURSE FOR ME?
This course is great if you have an interest in any area of Science, whether that is biology, chemistry, physics or forensics. You will learn how plants and animals work, how different chemicals are analysed, how we are exploring the depths of the universe and how to investigate and analyse a crime scene!
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
You would need to have 4 GCSE’s at Grade 4 or a Level 1 qualification at pass grade. Students are required to be self-motivated, disciplined and to take a degree of responsibility for their own learning.
WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I GAIN IF I SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE COURSE?
You will achieve a BTEC Level 2 First Diploma in Applied Science.
OTHER RELEVANT DETAILS?
The course involves both theory and practical elements. Student participation is important and essential in all practical units. You will also be given the opportunity to go on a number of trips to see Science in action, such as zoos, universities and hospitals.
