Foundation Studies – Employability & Development Skills Level 1

Overview

A one year foundation level course which will support you in developing the skills required for further study in your chosen vocational area.

Based at our Oswestry Campus, the course is very practical with plenty of opportunities to develop skills in a practical environment. Both skills and knowledge are assessed throughout the year by the completion of assignments. You will also complete a two week block of work experience during the course of the year. There are a variety of external visits which form part of your study programme and you will be appointed a personal tutor for the duration of the course. The skills for work course at Level 1 gives you practical tasters of courses as well as supporting you in developing the skills for paid or voluntary work. You will study a range of subjects such as hospitality and catering, hair and beauty and work-ready units such as word processing, CV writing and positive
attitudes and behaviours at work.

OCN Level 1 Diploma in Employability and Development Skills

Duration
One year full time (3 days per week)

Progression
Progression routes shown are dependent on successful completion of qualifications and meeting entry criteria.

Study options may include:
• Level 1 in a chosen vocational area

Employment options may include:

• Paid or voluntary work in a vocational  area you are interested in
• Paid/voluntary work in a coffee shop or similar
• Paid or voluntary work in a hairdressers
• Paid or voluntary work in a beauty salon

Course Costs
There may be optional trips relating to a unit within the course – letters will be sent out at least three weeks prior to the trip informing you of any related costs.

Aged 16-18 years
There are no tuition or examination fees however there may be an equipment fee should you wish to purchase course materials.

There will be fees for safety clothing required for practical activities within the chosen vocational areas. Further information about this can be requested from a member of the teaching team or will be sent out with your confirmation letter once you have had an interview.

Aged 19 or over (at the start of the course)
Different fees apply depending on your individual circumstances or prior qualifications. Please contact us to speak to someone who will be able to help.
