WHAT DOES THE SUBJECT INCLUDE?
This course has been developed to provide you with the opportunity to gain detailed academic knowledge and understanding of Sport and the related areas of exercise, science and performance. Students will develop their understanding of all areas of sport, including investigating how the body responds to exercise, exploring the techniques used to analyse sports performers and examining the importance of a healthy balanced diet.
WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE?
The course is made up of 180 credits over 2 years, with units being valued at either 5 or 10 credits. Each of which is assessed by a range of methods including written assessments, role play, presentations and practical activities.
IS THIS COURSE FOR ME?
If you have an interest in sport and are hoping to pursue a career in one of the many sport, leisure or recreation related areas (such as teaching, coaching, leisure centre employment) then this is the course for you.
WHAT ARE THE ENTRY REQUIREMENTS?
5 GCSE’s at C grade or above (or at levels 4-9 on new GCSE grading framework). Level 2 Sports (or other relevant Level 2 qualification) at pass grade. Students are required to be self-motivated, disciplined and to take a degree of responsibility for their own learning.
WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I GAIN IF I SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE COURSE?
You will gain the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport (equivalent to 3 A-Levels). There also additional qualifications such as Sport Leaders award and extra NGB qualifications that you can undertake to significantly enhance your knowledge and CV.
