WHAT DOES THE SUBJECT INCLUDE?
The course consists of the following units:
- 101: Working in Engineering (Mandatory)
With two further options from:-
- 104: Carrying out Basic Turning Techniques
- 106: Carrying out Electronics Assembly
- 108: Working with Sheet Metals
- 110: Carrying out MIG Welding Processes
- 114: Carrying out Mechanical Maintenance
You are appointed a Personal Tutor for the duration of the course.

WHAT QUALIFICATION WILL I GAIN IF I SUCCESSFULLY
COMPLETE THE COURSE?
City & Guilds Level 1 2850-10 Certificate in Engineering. Each unit is graded pass, merit or distinction.

Initial assessment will be undertaken by all potential students to ensure they are progressed onto the most suitable level of study for each individual.
HOW MANY HOURS, WEEKS, YEARS DOES IT LAST?
The course runs over an academic year which is 35 weeks long and you will attend college for approximately 20 hours a week over Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, which includes work experience.
WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME?
If you prefer your own safety boots and overalls you can bring these, alternatively these will be supplied at cost price on course commencement.
HOW CAN I PREPARE MYSELF BEFORE THE COURSE BEGINS?
You can look for a part time work placement in the engineering industry to help support your studies and finances.
WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?
Successful completion of this qualification could allow progression to the Level 2 Diploma in Engineering.
ARE THERE ANY EXTRA COSTS?
You are required to hire a locker to keep your personal belongings in. The cost of this is £10 which is refundable on completion of the course by returning your locker key.
