WHAT DOES THE SUBJECT INCLUDE?

The course consists of the following units:

·        Basic Principles of Plant Science
·        Basic Principles of Soil Science
·        Undertake Work Related Experience in The Land Based Sector
·        Participate in Providing Estate Maintenance
·        Establish and maintain plants outdoors
·        Participate in Propogation Techniques

WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE OF THE COURSE?

A ‘hands-on’ programme which provides a foundation of knowledge and practical skills needed for work in the changing world of Horticulture.  It incorporates essential work experience to help you progress to employment or further study

Academic and practical progress is assessed throughout the course in a variety of ways including group work, presentations, assignments and practicals and as you complete each unit you are building up the qualification as you go along.  Early morning farm duties are also part of this course.

1 year full time

WHAT CAN I DO NEXT?

You can progress on to the BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Horticulture (Subsidiary/90 Credit/Extended).

What is the structure of the course?

What are the entry requirements?

You should have an interest in agriculture and be at least 16 years of age at the beginning of the course and ideally have one of the following:-

  • 5 GCSE’s grades at D/E or above
  • NVQ Level 1
  • Foundation GNVQ
