Overview

This course leads to a Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying and aims to prepare you for employment and further training in the industry.

What does this subject include?

A course of study leading towards a Level 2 Diploma in Bricklaying involves:

  • Unit 201/601 Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Unit 202/602 Principles of building construction, information and communication
  • Unit 203 Producing thin joint masonry and masonry cladding
  • Unit 204 Building solid walling, isolated and attached piers
  • Unit 205 Interpreting working drawings to set out masonry structures
  • Unit 206 Construct cavity walling forming masonry structures

What is the structure of the course?

Individual Learning Plans:  You will have a personal tutor to help you to plan your learning journey on an individual basis.  This is your opportunity to plan realistic targets and maximise your potential

Functional Skills: English, Maths & IT (if you do not already hold this qualification or GCSE at grade C or above).  These separate qualifications will up-skill you in preparation for workplace requirements and help you with progression and employment prospects.

Facilities include a machine workshop, bench workshop, learning resource room and a purpose-built site simulation area. All students have access to information on study skills and study support groups if required. You will have a Personal Tutor to help support your learning.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Sound Industrial experience.
  • A relevant Level 1 vocational qualification or 4 GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade A - G to include Maths at grade C or above.
  • Applicants should provide a good reference and successfully complete an interview and an aptitude test, where they will have demonstrated abilities and an interest in the subject.
