Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance Operations (Construction) (BMO) City & Guilds 6711 – 23

Overview

This course leads to a Level 2 Diploma in Building Maintenance and aims to prepare you for employment and further training in the property maintenance. This is a training course driven by employers’ needs for multi-skilled operatives.

What does this subject include?

The course is made up of the following mandatory units:

  • Unit 201/601 Health, safety and welfare in construction
  • Unit 202/602 Principles of building construction, information and communication - how the construction industry operates and communicates, and how you as a BMO student would communicate with others.
  • Unit 235 Carry out small-scale building repairs – Covers repairs and reinstatement of masonry walling, roof tiling, paving, and drainage systems.
  • Unit 236 Carry out small - scale painting & decorating repairs - Covers repairs and reinstatement of wall and floor ceramic tiling, painting and decoration and glazing.
  • Unit 237 – Carry out small-scale plastering repairs - Covers repairs and reinstatement of plastered surfaces, including cement renders and floor screeds
  • Unit 238 – Carry out small – scale plumbing repairs - Covers repairs and renewal of domestic plumbing (sinks and sanitary ware), rainwater systems and roof flashings.
  • Unit 239 – Carry out small – scale carpentry repairs – Covers repairs and renewal fencing, timber components and related ironmongery.

What is the structure of the course?

Individual Learning Plans:  You will have a personal tutor to help you to plan your learning journey on an individual basis.  This is your opportunity to plan realistic targets and maximise your potential.

Functional Skills: English, Maths & IT (if you do not already hold this qualification or GCSE at grade C or above).  These separate qualifications will up-skill you in preparation for workplace requirements and help you with progression and employment prospects.

Facilities include a machine workshop, bench workshop, learning resource room and a purpose-built site simulation area. All students have access to information on study skills and study support groups if required. You will have a Personal Tutor to help support your learning.

What are the entry requirements?

  • Sound Industrial experience.
  • A relevant Level 1 vocational qualification or 4GCSEs (or equivalent) at grade A - D to include Maths at grade C or above.
  • Applicants should provide a good reference and successfully complete an interview and an aptitude test, where they will have demonstrated abilities and an interest in the subject.
