The Diploma will provide you with the opportunity to further enhance your knowledge and understanding in the world of sport coaching and development. Practical sessions form an important aspect of the course enabling you to develop skills that are needed to perform in a number of sporting roles, such as analysing sporting performance and coaching/leading. Theory sessions help with underpinning knowledge related to the work that is done in practical sessions.

What is the structure of the course?

The course is made up of 180 credits over 2 years, with units being valued at either 5 or 10 credits. Each unit is assessed by a range of methods including written assessments, role play, presentations and practical activities. As part of your study programme you will also be coached in your chosen sport, given nutritional and strategic fitness advice for 3 sessions a week and be involved in a games programme to further develop your skills. Below are some of the units delivered as part of the course.

What are the entry requirements?

  • 5 GCSE’s at C grade (Level 4) or a Level 2 Sports qualification at pass grade.
  • Students are required to be self-motivated, disciplined and to take a degree of responsibility for their own learning.
