What is the course about?
There will be 3 main study areas in this course for those who wish to deepen their skills and knowledge of the art. – Developing an interest or established skill level and aesthetic understanding of the ceramic crafts. Learning about the history of the medium with a worldwide cultural viewpoint; plus an in depth look at the technology and science of ceramics.
- Practical making: Hand building and wheelmaking skills will be explored, always with decoration in mind.
- Practical questions of the science involved in clay, glazes and finishes.
- A comparative study of ceramics and makers from around the world and from history.
Students need to be prepared to ask questions, and look for their own answers in all 3 study areas.
